Balboa Yacht Club

Welcome to Balboa Yacht Club

For over 90 years, the Balboa Yacht Club has served to encourage yacht racing and cruising, promoted the science of seamanship and navigation and provided a beautiful clubhouse and marina for the educational, recreational and social use of its members, families and guests.  The Club also maintains a one-of-a-kind outstation at Whites Cove, on beautiful Santa Catalina Island.

NEW WEBCAM AND WEATHER STATION ONLINE!

The latest feature on your BYC website is the live streaming video from our newly installed webcam, giving you full views from the jetty to the main dock.  As part of this new webcam, we have installed a marine-based weather station, provided by BUOYWEATHER.  This site gives you all the marine weather you need for your journey, including swell and tidal forecast, wind speed and direction, and more! Click on the "BYC CdM WebCam" at the top left.

For those of you attempting to view the WebCam on mobile devises, we are experiencing some technical difficulty.   We apologize for the delay, but hope to have it up shortly!

OPENING DAY WEEKEND A BIG SUCCESS

Congratulations to Opening Day Chairs Michele and Patrick McCormack for hosting a great event!  The weather was perfect and all in attendance had a terrific time!   Members should sign in to view the list of winners.  Also, scroll down to view photos courtesy of Mary Longpre'.  To view more of Mary's photos from the weekend, click HERE.

COOL DRONE VIDEO OF THE FESTIVITIES:

TWILIGHTS AND BEERCANS HAVE BEGUN

The season is officially here, so get out on the water with the Twilight races on Wednesdays and Beercan races on Thursdays.  Barbecues will be lit at 1800 hrs, and racers and non-racers are invited to participate!

WHITES LANDING PIER UPDATE

The Catalina Island Conservancy is nearing the completion of the permitting phase for replacing the pier at Whites Landing.   The Army Corps of Engineers' permit is due anytime, and after securing that permit, construction should begin mid-June.   Once this permit is issued, a rough construction schedule will be posted.  In the meantime, what is left of the pier is dangerous and off limits.  During the construction process, several moorings will be utilized for equipment and construction barges.  Until the new pier is complete, members accessing the Whites Cove Station will need to make it ashore "the old-fashioned way!"  Tune up your inflatable and install wheels if you have not done so. For tips on "beaching" your inflatable at Whites, view the how-to video below, produced by S/C Peter and Kari Bretschger, and S/C Ray Lewis.

WHITES COVE WATER CONSERVATION POLICY

The Board of Director's approved a WATER CONSERVATION POLICY at Whites Cove, as we are now in a "Stage 2" rationing phase.  We will need to comply with this policy to avoid further restrictions and fines by SoCal Edison.  We are hopeful that compliance to this policy will avoid further water reductions to the station, requiring additional restrictions.
