June 2009 - The summer sailing season is once again upon us and the fleets have begun to "Commence Yachting."

Throughout June, the rites of summer are enjoyed every Wednesday and Thursday nights with one-design racing in the Twilight Series and PHRF boats competing in the Thursday night Beercans. Everyone is invited to stay afterwards for our wonderful barbeque and a drink in the burgee bar with good friends.

On June 6 & 7 BYC was well represented in The Butler Cup and then the following week at the Long Beach Ficker Cup. 

We also enjoyed co-hosting the Hoag Big Boat Regatta that took place June 12 -14.  Spectators were treated to some of Southern California's fastest racing teams as they competed for this wonderful charity. BYC's own "It's OK" squared off against the larger TP 52's and SC 70's, and the overall winner was Roy P. Disney's "Pyewacket". 

The BYC Summer Junior Sailing is now underway!  Young sailors learn and compete for 6 weeks in sabots, CFJ's and 420's.  There are great instructors from all over the country and fun kids from all over the county having a terrific summer experience.  In conjunction with the Junior Program, the Flag Deck Grille (Snack Bar) is now open...this year, the hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm.  Also, as part of the Junior racing program, our BYC Governor's Cup challenge team will continue to practice right up to the big event with 12 Teams from around the world competing in exciting match races.
