Balboa Yacht Club

Welcome to Balboa Yacht Club

For over 90 years, the Balboa Yacht Club has served to encourage yacht racing and cruising, promoted the science of seamanship and navigation and provided a beautiful clubhouse and marina for the educational, recreational and social use of its members, families and guests.  The Club also maintains a one-of-a-kind outstation at Whites Cove, on beautiful Santa Catalina Island.

OPENING DAY THIS WEEK!

Opening Day is THIS Saturday, May 9.  Join your fellow Members as we officially raise the sails for the 2015 voyage.   Don't forget to sign up for Swabbies Ball, this Friday night, the night before Opening Day (and Mother's Day the following Sunday, May 10!). Click HERE for the Opening Day schedule and we hope to see you on the dock!

WHITES COVE PIER UPDATE

The Catalina Island Conservancy is nearing the completion of the permitting phase for replacing the pier at Whites Cove.   The Army Corps of Engineers' permit is the last hurdle before construction.  Until this permit is issued, a construction schedule cannot be finalized.  In the meantime, what is left of the pier is dangerous and off limits.  Since it is now a realization that there will not be a pier for use by Whites Opening Day (Ob-Seussed with Whites Cove!), or most of the summer, as it appears, visitors to Whites will need to make it ashore "the old-fashioned way!"  Tune up your inflatable and install wheels if you have not done so.  For tips on "beaching" your inflatable at Whites, view the how-to video below, produced by S/C Peter and Kari Bretschger, and S/C Ray Lewis.

And, another feature brought to you by the Whites Opening Day Committee, is shuttle service from Two Harbors, for folks without a ride.  Click HERE for more info on this offer.

WHITES COVE WATER CONSERVATION POLICY

The Board of Director's approved a WATER CONSERVATION POLICY at Whites Cove, as we are now in a "Stage 2" rationing phase.  We will need to comply with this policy to avoid further restrictions and fines by SoCal Edison.  We are hopeful that compliance to this policy will avoid further water reductions to the station, requiring additional restrictions.

KITCHEN ENTRY REMODELING ON SCHEDULE!

The construction of the new kitchen entry of the clubhouse (photo below) is progressing and on schedule.  Included in this project was the building of a new wall along the South parking lot.  The entire project should be completed by Opening Day.
