    July 24, 2011 - San Diego Yacht Club Team Wins the 45th GOV CUP

    The victorious team from San Diego Yacht Club included the youngest racer in the regatta Nevin Snow as skipper racing with crew Jake LaDow and Jake Reynolds. The team lost only four races in the Round Robin series. The final four teams included Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club, San Diego Yacht Club and Newport Harbor Yacht Club. More details...

    July 22, 2011 - GOV CUP Racing Competition Is Fierce

    Two US teams are holding their own against the teams from “Down Under” With all but four flights of the second round robin completed, the San Diego Yacht Club team of Nevin Snow, Jake LaDow and Jake Reynolds has fifteen wins with only threelosses. To complete the second round robin, SDYC must race against BYC, RHADC,RNZYS and RYA. RNZYS is their toughest opponent according to the overall record. More details...

    July 21, 2011 - GOV CUP Racing Continues

    The first Round Robin is complete, and the second one is well on its way. The wind is still under 8 knots but with cloud cover so the temperature is comfortable. Racing is close to the Balboa Pier today so spectators on the beach and pier can enjoy the view. More details...

    July 17, 2011 - Twelve Teams Will Compete in the 2011 Gov Cup And a Thank You to Our Great Sponsors

    Balboa Yacht Club’s 45th annual Governor’s Cup International Junior Match Racing
    Championship will take place July 19 to 24, 2011. Many Newport Harbor area racers
    have been a part of the long history of this event. Many of the racers, all twenty years of
    age or under, will be staying with host families during their week here. More details...

    June 8, 2011 - 45th Annual Governor’s Cup Teams Are Announced

    Teams from eleven yacht clubs have been notified that their applications have been accepted for Balboa Yacht Club’s 45th annual Governor’s Cup International Junior Match Racing Championship which will take place July 19 to 24, 2011. The event features some of the best young match racing talent from all over the world. Six international teams and five from the United States including one from the Virgin Islands will be participating. One team remains to be chosen in a competitive event later this month.     May 15, 2011 - Final four teams compete for the winning spot in 2011 Gov Cup

    The Second Youth Clinic & Regatta was held at Balboa Yacht Club from May 13 through the 15th. Crews of three or four, all members of US Sailing, competed in a round robin series on Saturday and Sunday, culminating in the best two out of three among the top four, then the top two to determine the winner. The winning skipper with his team will be invited to the prestigious 2011 Governor’s Cup, to be held at BYC from July 19-24. More details...

    May 13, 2011 - Teams are chosen for Second Youth Match Race Clinic & Regatta

    The Second Youth Clinic & Regatta will be held at Balboa Yacht Club from May 13 through the 15th. Crews of three or four, all members of US Sailing, will compete in a round robin series on Saturday and Sunday, culminating in the best two out of three among the top four, then the top two to determine the winner. The winning skipper will be invited to the prestigious 2011 Governor’s Cup, to be held at BYC from July 19-24. Both events will be sailed in the identical Governor’s Cup 21 keel boats, donated by our club members to the Newport Balboa Sailing & Seamanship Foundation, the principal sponsor of the events. Racing will be in the ocean near the Newport Pier. More details...

July 24, 2010 - The Gov Cup's Final Four

Day four of racing brought another beautiful day for sailing in Southern California with sunshine and good wind. Don Becker, PRO, and the race committee started the races at 1130 and were finished with the double round robin early. July 23, 2010 - Sun Shines on the Gov Cup

Day three of racing brought improved conditions with good wind, less surf, and sunshine. The sun came out at 1430, bringing additional wind. The good conditions made it possible to complete eight flights for a total of forty-eight matches. Read more about the third day of competition...

July 22, 2010 - First Round Robin Complete

Day two of racing included completion of the first round robin. The wind was light, the temperature mild with overcast most of the day, but the racers were able to complete  thirty-six matches in time to return to participate in the BeerCan racing in big boats in the evening. July 21, 2010 - Racing Begins at the 44th Annual Governor’s Cup

On the first day of racing, the international field of racers and umpires gathered early for breakfastand a final briefing, then prepared their boats and were towed out to the race course. July 20, 2010 - The Competitors Arrive for the 44th Annual Governor’s Cup

A very eager group of young racers arrived Tuesday at Balboa Yacht Club, ready to compete for the prestigious Governor's Cup. The International Junior Match Racing Championship racers will begin five days of racing on Wednesday, as each team of three races every other team twice, before the final competition begins.  Read more...
